What is CBD?

This is part of our series Edibles; Quick, informative articles to help you understand the organic miracle molecule that is CBD.

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring molecule found in the hemp plant. It is commonly used as a naturally occurring, organic medicine with properties that are beneficial for a range of ailments from chronic pain and skin treatments to anxiety disorders and neuropsychiatric illness. Although found in the same plant as THC, CBD has no psychoactive properties, it will NOT get you high. This is because CBD and THC react to different receptor’s in the body, so CBD and hemp oil will allow for medicinal treatment without the feeling of being “stoned”. CBD has been used for thousands of years in ancient medicine’s and salve’s. Its benefits range from the treatment of chronic pain to a relaxing aphrodisiac. Scientists are currently studying its medical uses in treating a wide range of diseases including Alzheimer’s, arthritis, gut disorders and cardiovascular dysfunction. As the research advances and the stigma around using hemp-based natural products for treatments is lifted, researchers are expanding the breadth of ailments that can be fixed with CBD.
